“He who experiences the unity of life sees his own Self in all beings, and all beings in his own Self, and looks on everything with an impartial eye.” –the Buddha

Key #4 We Are One

The forth key in the book the 100th human focuses our attention to how related and connected we all are to each other. Jake Jenkins, the peaceful giant character in the book, educates us on both the technical similarities and viable associations we all share. Adopting the truth that We are One can be an antidote for loneliness. However, some people often find it challenging to befriend the idea of being related to those they dislike or even hate, let alone befriending the people themselves. I encourage you to seek out and clear away grudges and resentments. They serve to only get in the way of your happiness and your Shift in Consciousness. Accept and embrace how connected we all are.
In the book, the symbol for the forth key is an interwoven circle, demonstrating how our lives are inextricably interconnected and interwoven with everyone else’s, now and forever.
The power of this truth – We Are One, can seem somewhat paradoxical. If we focus on ourselves and our choices, clearing away old resentments, embracing unity and following the rest of the 8 keys, we can affect the whole world. We can really only change ourselves. But since we are all connected, genetically, molecularly, environmentally, socially and metaphysically then by changing ourselves we change the whole. One choice at a time, we can shift into critical mass, one moment at a time. All choice, power and change take place in the moment, in the ever-present now.

“All of life is on a continuum, meaning that it is all connected, and in more ways than one, I’ve found out. We are related. Do you know that we each share each other’s molecules? Through a complete lifetime, all of the molecules in the world have been in my body and in every other person’s body on the planet. People in China have had my molecules and I have had the molecules of people in the Middle East and Africa. We are all made up of the same stuff. Not only that,” he said with still a note of surprise in his voice, “we have the same molecules as people who are gone, dead, like Michelangelo or Leonardo Da Vinci, or Abraham Lincoln or Hitler even. Isn’t that amazing?”

“And there’s more. Not only are our bodies made up of the same molecules as everyone else, but genetically speaking we are all 99.99% exactly the same. Everyone on the planet is that closely related.” Jake shook his head, obviously still stunned by this truth.”
“She told me that not only are all things related, but that all things are possible and we are connected to all things and to all possibilities. She stressed to me that when one of us changes it affects all of us. How’d she put it? Oh, yeah, the whole of us. When many of us change, it affects the whole of us further. She said that there will come a day, not far in the future, when we will be on the verge of a big change, for the good. She called this change a couple of different names. I didn’t know what they were at the time, but I do now. She called it the “evolution of the human species.” She also called it “our next punct-uated equil-ibrium.”
-- Chapter 54

When enough of us are making daily, vital choices toward awareness and unity, a critical mass shift will take place in the entire populace. This is not a new age notion to dismiss as overly optimistic, but rather a proven scientific phenomenon that has occurred repeatedly throughout our history.

“All the forces in the world are not so powerful as an idea whose time has come.”
--Victor Hugo

There are ideas that have surfaced during the last 100 years in this country that prove critical mass or what I like to call the 100th human phenomenon. Ideas such as the end of slavery, equal marriage rights to African Americans, inter-racial marriage, and more recently (less than 50 years ago) women’s right to vote and equity in the work place. These are not small ideas, they are HUGE ideas that are based on Unity and truth. Each one started with individuals making choices day by day, moment by moment.

“Our people began to change and become aware, a long time ago, but there were too few to make the jump, too few to create the punctu-ated equili-brium. But the numbers have been growing. More and more people have been waking up, understanding that we are all the same and changing. It makes it hard to go to war with someone who is so similar to you, dontcha think? Oh, sure we are different, but not enough to kill over.” “As soon as we realize that, things will really start to change.”

“The angel, she described this critical mass shift as a slow build up and then a quick topple over the edge. She said that the time when we are close, the last few days before we reach critical mass, will be the most crucial, because we will actually be in a super-state. We are capable of anything in those couple of days or weeks, and due to our vola-tility, we could also destroy ourselves instead of shift. All things that are possible will be hyper-possible during those days.”

-- Chapter 54

How should we proceed toward Unity? Make each day, each moment count. Embrace your fellow man and woman no matter what they look like. Recognize the Power of One! You. And don’t forget the other keys as well: Living on Purpose, Hearing the Silence and Infinite Possibilities. The ball is in your court. This may seem a heavy weight to bare, until you realize the power to create real change is in each moment. You can choose what you do, who you do it with, how you do it and when you do it. But more important is to choose how you think about what you are doing. Be aware and embrace Unity -- for we truly are One. Remember your thoughts count. Be the 100th human!

Five exercises to increase your awareness of how We are One:

1.Identify areas in your life where you separate yourself from others. (Examples: race, religion, age, financial status, etc.) Then ask yourself which one will matter when you are dead.
2.Think of a person (or people) you dislike (even hate). Write down as many things as you can that are the same or similar about that person and yourself.
3.If you are in a peaceful and connected state, recognize how the events of your day flow. Notice how you affect your environment and the people around you, even people you don’t know.
4.If you are in an anxious, fearful, angry, stressful state notice the same affects.
5.Spend time while in meditation observing yourself and your life, being the Observer. If you are observing yourself, there are two of you. One is the watcher, your true being, connected and One. The other is being watched. It is the false self, fragmented and separate. Once you can observe yourself and identify with the true self, the Observer, take this practice into your daily experience.
